Narberth goes to War!
By Simon Evans
Narberth Classic MCC was in action on Sunday April 5th, and the Old War Mine Depot at Milford Haven was the venue for the explosive opening round of the Cambrian Tyres - sponsored Welsh Classic Motocross Championship. The long and steep uphill start lead into the fast and sweeping course that is built above a myriad of war time tunnels.
It was war on the track with some exciting and close racing. Young Rhys Edwards took the Pre 74 over 250cc class honours with two opening wins and a runner up spot behind Rupert Copping, but it was another young Welsh rider that took runner up spot overall after he claimed a brace of second places.
John Price took the Pre 74 upto 250cc class with an unbeatable performance on the 250cc ASR Honda. Chris Storey followed home each time out for runner up spot as did Ian Davies who took the final podium spot in each race.
Paul Harker and Matt Williams got the all important holeshot, powering the Wasp to victory each time out in the Sidecar class. They were pushed all the way through by Andy and Leigh Carter in some really close racing on the tight circuit.
In the hottly contested and strongly supported Pre 65 up to 250 two-stroke 350 four stroke class, Tim Dallaway took overall hounours with two wins and a second from Andrew Owen who took the second podium position and Mitchel Harris third overall.
In the Pre 68 unlimited class it was again very close with Tim Manton and Tim Dallaway wheel to wheel for much of the action. Manton took the opener with Dallaway in second place, only for the results to be reversed in moto two to square the points up. The deciding final moto saw Manton take the chaqured flag and the overall.
Likewise in the Pre 60 class, Andy Carter roade well all day taking first and a brace of second spots. Llewellyn taking a race win in the first and third races for second overall, with Mick Maskelyne taking thirs overall.
Dave Cooper took the overall win in the Metisse Class, with Brad Nixon winning the Twinshock Class winning race one and two and a runner up spot in race three.
In the supporting Quad classes, brothers Simon and David Hammersley to the race wins.
